My daughter and I go out walking every day. We usually walk up the block, a few times, and then chase the squirrels and any neighborhood dogs. We have met so many neighbors with the beautiful weather, and my babe’s quick smile is a great way to get our neighbors to practice waving. When she brings me her shoes, we gear up and head outdoors. She loves to carry sticks and twigs, and the house rule of “no sticks inside the house” is quickly becoming the least favorite rule we have.
If getting out to a place is difficult for you – which it can be for us for a wide variety of reasons – don’t overlook your own neighborhood as a great place to get some exercise and explore.
Sara worked as an art educator in the Fairfax County Public Schools. She is from Nebraska and went to college in Minnesota, where she met her husband, and has one daughter, born December 2013. She loves to draw, paint, knit scarves, and is learning to quilt. She watches too much TV, loves wine, trashy historical romance books, space operas, and plays World of Warcraft. Her local favorite is Meadowlark Gardens, which can be a hassle to get to visit with a babe but is always worth the drive. Her favorite time to create is when the house is quiet.
